This is an opportunity to work side by side with both Dr. and Michael Pugliese! This course is designed to provide the esthetician with an in-depth understanding of the ingredients in cosmetic products, how they are formulated in the laboratory and how products are manufactured. What you will learn is; basic laboratory equipment, weighing and measuring ingredients, using the pH meter, emulsions technology, creams, gels, serums, selection of ingredients and how to design a formula and more. Students make six products ranging from a skin cleanser to an anti-aging product. Students are encouraged to bring a product with them for analysis.
Cost of 4-day course is $1000. A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your seat.
Certificate of Completion will be issued for successful completion of this course.

Physiology of the Skin: Inflammation and Skin Aging Inflammation can be identified as a contributing factor to many diseases, but what does it have to do with skin health and aging? This session will define and explain the various steps in inflammation and relate this process to intrinsic aging. Cellular and molecular mechanisms will be addressed including NF Kappa b, glycation, UV radiation, generators of oxidative stress and free radical formation. Understanding and Using Acids in the Treatment Room
Chemical Peels are some of the most common services performed in professional skin care facilities. However, not all peels are created equally. This presentation will expose the practitioner to a number of commonly used peeling agents including, salicylic, lactic, mandelic, glycolic, lactobionic, and their properties. The Truth About Oxygen and the Skin (Saturday 12-2)
Oxygen is essential to life and keeping the skin looking young and healthy. However, few estheticians fully understand the impact both positive and negative it can have on normal physiological action. This lecture will detail oxygen’s critical functions within the many layers of the skin as well as address concerns for over and improper use. Pigmentation Disorders Causes and Treatments (Sunday 3-5)
This presentation will cover the mechanism of melanin formation and melanocyte function as well as associated states of hyper-hypo pigmentation. The role of the enzymes tyrosinase and phenylalanine oxidase in melanin formation will be described. Methods to reduce pigmentation by exfoliation, inhibition of melanin formation, melanosome transfer, as well as melanocyte receptor blocking will be presented. Specific treatments for melasma, inflammatory hyperpigmentation and lentigenes will be presented. Speaker: Michael Q. Pugliese
Stem Cell Ingredients Demystified (Monday 9-11) Stem cell technology has quickly become one of the hottest topics emerging from the skin care market. However, many questions still surround the function and validity of claims being made on these intriguing materials.
