SWiCH

SWiCH™ Epidermal Repair System

A scientific breakthrough that helps enhance mitochondrial function and restores skin to its youthful appearance. SWiCH™ gives the professional skin specialist a treatment that performs beyond the results achievable with non-surgical peels.

Skin Type:

Aging, photo-damaged or environmentally-damaged skin.

Properties:

  • Based on a physiological principle of inducing the natural repair system of the skin to become active.
  • Activation of the repair system effects a restoration of both sun-damaged skin and intrinsic skin aging changes.
  • Helps induce repair with minimal epidermal damage.
  • Unlike most acid-based treatments, the SWiCH™ System is a leave-on system. The active ingredient remains to provide the continuous treatment for repair and restoration.
  • Since tissue damage is minimal, repeated treatment can be performed at regular intervals without risk of over-treatment.

The Philosophy behind SWiCH™

For over 40 years chemical peeling has been practiced by physicians to rejuvenate or remodel sun-damaged skin. Both intrinsic and extrinsic aging changes have been the object of many types of skin peeling including chemical, mechanical and thermal modalities. The common thread tying these methods together is the ability of the skin to heal itself when damaged. All of these methods produce some degree of tissue destruction, which incites the natural repair process within the skin. Consistent damage to the epidermis, however, may lead to more serious side effects. In a dermal system that is already overtaxed, the use of these agents creates a greater demand on the energy production.

With the SWiCH™ System, it is now possible to achieve repair of the skin without having to induce tissue damage. The body’s repair systems, including that in the skin, are held in a ready state at all times. Understanding what is needed to trigger the system is the key to the efficacy of the SWiCH™ System.

Any repair system requires a large input of energy. Biologically this is in the form of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. This energy source is generated by a natural cycle as part of the metabolism of food. For the SWiCH™ system to be effective the active ingredients must penetrate into the skin. Next, the repair mechanism must be switched on and the energy supplied-just as you flip a light switch to supply electrical energy to a bulb. The three parts of the SWiCH™ System are (1) effect penetration, (2) generate energy, and (3) turn on the repair system.

Commonly asked questions:

Is the SWiCH™ safe to use during pregnancy?

Your esthetician will have a list of ingredients for the SWiCH™. Please consult with your physician for his/her opinion on what is best for you and your child. While there are no known contra-indications per se, there is also no data on the effect of SWiCH™ on pregnancy. So a rule, we believe in erring on the safe side, and recommend avoiding as many chemicals as possible during pregnancy.

Can I administer the SWiCH™ treatment more frequently than one per month?

We do not recommend it. The skin needs time to process the changes and get ready for another treatment. In some instances, such as very oily, thick skin, the SWiCH™ could be given every three weeks.

Can I substitute the Epiprep for another means of exfoliating?

No. The Epiprep is not categorized as an exfoliant. It is “opening up” the skin to accept and take the SWiCH™ solution deep into the skin. The SWiCH™ System is sold as a complete set and needs to be used as directed.

I have extra cleanser, Epiprep, and solution after 10 treatments. Can I order more of the ½ oz. Vitamin Veil and Fraction V?

Yes, we sell them separately. Depending on the area being covered with each treatment, you will find you may sometimes have enough material for more than 10 treatments.

Is it safe and/or beneficial to use SWiCH™ on the hands, arms, and décolleté?

Yes, the SWiCH™ works well on the hands and lower arms for age spots, discolorations, and general signs of aging. It is safe for use on the neck and décolleté, although it is generally more sensitive than the face and the client may have more flaking and irritation. They will need extra home care products.

The instructions say to keep the Epiprep and the SWiCH™ solution on for 30 minutes. Can I cut that time down to 20 minutes so I can schedule each treatment for an hour?

The ideal time is 30 minutes each step. If you must cut down the time, it should never be less than 20 minutes for optimal results. And never longer than 30 minutes.

Sometimes I feel like I missed a spot when applying the SWiCH™. Can I go back over and reapply the SWiCH™ solution?

No, do not reapply the solution. When beginning application, start at the forehead and carefully swipe the applicator across the forehead in steady but consistent pressure. You want to move quickly but not so fast you miss large areas. The solution will blend together as it penetrates the skin. Do not worry if the application was not perfect.

Do the treatments need to be stopped at some point?

As long as the skin continues to improve and it is in healthy condition, the SWiCH™ treatments may be continued indefinitely. All treatments at some point seem to reach a plateau. If the client experiences a standstill in progress sometimes taking a break and continuing with a series of regular facials for a few months will allow the skin to renew. Going back to a series of SWiCH™ later will give noticeable results once again.

My clients want to continue to use the Fraction V after the recommended 2-3 days post SWiCH™. Is this beneficial and should I sell them extra Fraction V?

This is a common request and the Fraction V can be used as often as desired.

Does the client have to stop all glycolic acid products before the SWiCH™?

Absolutely. We do not recommend mixing other product lines (especially glycolic acid)when the client is having SWiCH™ treatments.

Can I give microdermabrasion treatments between SWiCH™ treatments?

We do not recommend it. We highly recommend the Circadia Cocoa Enzyme treatment 5—10 days post SWiCH™. If you feel you need to give a microdermabrasion treatment between SWiCH™ treatments, wait 2 weeks after the SWiCH™ and only give one light pass of the microdermabrasion.

Can I combine LED treatments with the SWiCH™?

Yes, but not on the same day. Please consult your skin care professional for details.

Can I still give the SWiCH™ to someone who forgets to stop using their Vitamin A cream before their scheduled appointment?

It is not advised. The skin will respond differently and it may cause unnecessary inflammation and irritation. It is much safer to reschedule the appointment for at least a week later and stop all vitamin A use.

Is it safe to give the SWiCH™ treatment to a client who shows areas of dry skin?

For best results from the SWiCH™, the skin should not have dry patches or areas that may be of concern to you. Use that appointment to give the client a soothing, hydrating facial and reschedule the SWiCH for the next time. You may want to sell the client the Circadia Moisture on Demand to replenish the dry areas.

Will the SWiCH™ help acne?

The SWiCH is an anti-aging treatment. There are better choices for acne such as the DermaFrost Salicylic Acid Peel, or an enzyme application with the Oxygen Rx Treatment. The skin type and grade of acne will determine what treatment is best for each individual condition.

Will the SWiCH™ help to rid the skin of brown spots?

Yes, it will. The client should be given the White Veil Lightener two weeks prior to the first SWiCH™ treatment. It should be used daily along with the Vitamin C Reversal Serum and the Light Day Cream SPF 30 for the duration of the SWiCH™ treatments.

My client returned from vacation with a fading tan and I gave her a SWiCH™ Treatment. She wanted to help repair the damage caused by the sun. I thought since the tan was fading and she wasn’t in the sun for a few days, it was safe to do a SWiCH™ Treatment. She broke out in little bumps immediately and got very irritated. What happened?

Even though her skin was not red or sun burned, it was damaged recently from the sun. A tan is the skin responding to injury. The skin was still attempting to heal itself from the sun and the SWiCH™ was simply too much—too soon. The client needs to allow the skin to heal, protect from the sun at all times, do not use anything aggressive at home, and return to you in 4 weeks.

Can I give the SWiCH™ to a 28 year old with good skin, but concerned about aging?

It is best to wait until she is at least 30–35 years old to begin the SWiCH™ treatments. She will benefit from home care products such as the Circadia Night Repair Cream, Vitamin C Reversal Serum, Light Day Cream SPF 15 or 30. The Alpha/Beta 30%/10% or the 35% Lactic acid peel could be given for professional facial treatments finishing with the Green or Red Tea Masks.

Can I give “micro-current” treatments in combination with the SWiCH™?

The SWiCH™ has not been tested in combination with micro-current machines. We can not give you any specific guidelines or protocols. We do feel the skin needs a full month to renew and repair after a SWiCH treatment. If you feel you could give increased benefits from combining the two, wait at least 10–14 days after the SWiCH™ to give a micro-current treatment. Do not give a micro-current treatment immediately before or after a SWiCH™ treatment.

How do I decide which treatment to give my client; the Oxygen Rx or the SWiCH™?

The SWiCH™ is an anti-aging skin rejuvenation treatment. Anyone interested in maintaining youthful, healthy skin, repairing sun damage, improving fine lines and wrinkles, and improving the overall integrity of the skin is a good candidate for the SWiCH™.

The Oxygen Rx Treatment is excellent for treating acne, lightening and brightening the skin, and for treating rosacea. The Oxygen treatment can be given as frequently as once a week. The SWiCH treatments should be given once a month. The Circadia technical guide will give you additional information on the benefits and contraindications for both the SWiCH™ and the Oxygen Rx Treatment.
